Given that we didn't get the Galaxy S22 FE last year, you might have thought Samsung had given up on the whole "Fun Edition" version of its flagship smartphone.
Apparently not. The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE has long been rumored, and the latest evidence is irrefutable. The device is listed on the Chinese TENNA certification site, with photos and key specs.
As you would expect for a 'fan edition', the handset looks almost identical to the Samsung Galaxy S23, for which it pays full homage with three traffic light camera arrays on the back (although the flash appears slightly lower).
But scroll down the page and you'll see a whole bunch of specs. The device measures 158 x 76.5 x 8.2 mm and weighs a rather chunky 210 grams.
The 6.3-inch screen will have a Full HD+ resolution of 2,340 x 1,080, which means it sticks to Samsung's familiar 19.5:9 aspect ratio; given that the S21 FE had a 120Hz screen, we expect the same here We would expect the same here.
The device is listed as having 8GB RAM, a 4,370mAh battery, and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. If you take a lot of photos, you might want to plump for the latter, as the last Fe did not come with expandable storage, and it's unlikely Samsung will offer it here either.
The only thing not listed is the processor, with a clock speed of "2.99GHz/2.4GHz/1.7GHz". However, it is rumored to be powered by last year's Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 processor, depending on the region of purchase.
Nothing has been said about the camera, but it is rumored to have a 50MP main sensor and support an 8MP telephoto lens and a 12MP ultra-wide angle lens.
According to the always accurate leaker Yogesh Brar, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE will be released in "late September," placing it between the iPhone 15 and the Google Pixel 8 in the upcoming release schedule. The price is yet to be determined, but is expected to be around $699, $100 less than the regular S23 MSRP. Of course, with an eight-month head start, the Galaxy S23 may be priced more competitively, so it would be best to shop around before committing to the S23 FE's weaker specs.
