Amazon's Prime Video has added many new movies this month. In fact, just scrolling through the list of new additions to Prime Video in September 2023 made my eyes water at the sheer number of movies. But when so much new content is dropped onto the service all at once, it becomes a little more difficult to pick out the gems.
So we've decided to take a look at some of the new Prime Video movies that have received high scores on the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes. Of course, a score of 90% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes is not an absolute guarantee that the film will appeal to you, but it does indicate that the majority of critics think the film is worthwhile and on your watch list It is very likely that it is worthy of being on your watch list.
The list includes a wide variety of films, from classic science fiction films that continue to influence the genre to this day to one of the most uplifting sports films of all time. There are also documentaries that are still timely more than 20 years after their release, and films adapted from Jane Austen's popular novels that audiences of all ages will swoon over.
Here are the best movies new to Prime Video this month.
Based on Jane Austen's classic novel of the same name, Sense and Sensibility is a drama set in rural England. It features two sisters, Elinor (Emma Thompson) and Marianne (Kate Winslet), who must marry into a wealthy family after their father dies and the Dashwood family falls on hard times. Marianne is torn between two men (Greg Wise and Alan Rickman), while Elinor's potential suitor Edward (Hugh Grant) is involved in a previous engagement. Naturally, drama soon ensues.
Directed by Ang Lee, this 1995 film is often cited as one of the best Austen adaptations. This is thanks to Emma Thompson's Academy Award-winning screenplay, and the film was nominated for six more Academy Awards, including Best Picture, shortly after its release. Whether you are familiar with Austen's literary work or not, "Sense and Sensibility" is a surprisingly entertaining film and cannot be accused of being merely a stodgy period piece.

If Hugh Grant wasn't enough for you in Sense and Sensibility, you'll be pleased to hear that he leads a very interesting cast in Four Weddings and a Funeral. This British rom-com was a huge hit upon its release in 1994, becoming the highest-grossing British film of all time at the time.
Written by Richard Curtis, screenwriter of such romantic comedy classics as "Bridget Jones," "Notting Hill," and "Love Actually," "Four Weddings and a Funeral" follows the romantic adventures of affable Englishman Char ( Grant) over, you guessed it, four weddings and one rather somber affair. The object of his affections is an American woman named Carrie (Andie MacDowell), whom he firmly believes is the one for him, even if their timing is not quite right.

In 2002, documentary filmmaker Michael Moore sparked a national debate that continues to this day with his film Bowling for Columbine. The feature-length documentary explores the causes of the 1999 Columbine High School massacre and casts a largely critical eye on gun control and the accessibility of firearms in the United States.
Branded "provocative" and "incendiary" by some critics, Bowling for Columbine cuts to the heart of the matter and addresses the senseless tragedy with brutal honesty. Moore also broadens the theme by looking at the broader causes of violent crime in the United States and why the firearms crime rate in the United States is so much higher than in other countries. Since this documentary is over 20 years old, some of the data is a bit out of date. Maybe more so these days.

Few films are as influential as 2001: A Space Odyssey. The ripples from Stanley Kubrick's 1968 space epic "2001: A Space Odyssey" can be clearly seen to this day. The special effects, hailed as groundbreaking at the time of its release, are still compelling, and the story is still very engaging. [2001: A Space Odyssey] spans multiple eras (and dimensions) as Dr. Dave Bowman (Kier Dallaire) and his fellow astronauts embark on a mysterious space mission, but before they can complete their mission, the ship's artificial intelligence system, named HAL, begins to exhibit strange behavior. It begins to exhibit strange behavior, and a tense showdown between man and machine ensues. There is much more to tell, but for fear of spoilers, I will not open the curtain any further. Just know that if you self-identify as a science fiction fan, even a little, you need to see this groundbreaking film now.

This 1976 film created an iconic franchise that continues to this day and made Sylvester Stallone a popular movie star overnight. Rocky is the quintessential sports movie. The story of an underdog rising to meet an impossible challenge has been imitated in countless genre films since then, but few of them have matched the original.
Stallone plays Rocky Balboa, a weak boxer trying (and failing) to make it big in Philadelphia. But when heavyweight champion Apollo Creed announces plans to challenge a local heavyweight champion to a match in the ring, this "nobody" boxer is given the chance to become a "nobody" boxer. However, Rocky knows that this fight is his shot at glory, and he has no intention of letting the awkward southpaw Creed win without a fight.

"Tangerine" made quite a splash in 2015. Not only because of its great quality and inclusive casting, but also because the entire film was shot on three iPhone 5s smartphones. Director Sean Baker's guerrilla style of filming led to a film that feels both very raw and very fresh.
The comedy-drama follows transgender sex worker Sin-Dee Lela (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) upon her release from prison, who discovers that her boyfriend and pimp Chester (James Ransone) is having an affair. With her best friend and fellow sex worker Alexandra (Mya Taylor) in tow, Cindy sets out to track Chester down and teach him and his new girlfriend a lesson.

Based on the novel of the same name by British author P. D. James, Children of Men is set in a world where mass infertility has brought society to the brink of collapse. In this bleak future, a disillusioned government official (Clive Owen) becomes an unexpected savior when he is given the job of helping a refugee (Claire-Hope Ashitey) escape a dystopian England.
Directed by Alfonso CuarĂ³n and starring Julianne Moore, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Pam Ferris, Charlie Hunnam, and Michael Caine, Children of Men is a modern classic. It is a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and its one-shot action sequences have been frequently imitated over the past 15 years. Above all, Children of Men reminds us that even in the darkest of times, hope can be found.
