The Dream of iMessage for Android is Over - Beeper Mini Officially Gives Up

The dream of accessing iMessage on Android is over; Beeper Mini made headlines for discovering various loopholes that allowed Android users to earn blue bubbles without an iPhone, but Apple blocked access. Now, the developer has made sure to throw in the towel.

In a new blog post, the developer wrote, "Every time Beeper Mini goes "down" or becomes unreliable due to interference by Apple, Beeper's reliability takes a hit. It is unsustainable. As much as we would love to fight for what we truly believe is a great product that should exist, the fact is, we can't win a tussle with the biggest company on the planet"

.

This is all completely true, but it does make me wonder why they have been fighting for so long. Apple cares very much about iMessage and would never have allowed a third party system to try to exploit the system, especially when loopholes are a security concern.

And Apple's legal department would have gotten involved if this had gone on much longer - assuming they haven't already.

The current system is quite complex and probably out of reach for the majority of people. It depends on you having an older jailbroken iPhone (6, 6s, SE1, 7, 8 or X) along with either a Mac or Linux computer. beeper has the latest version of the Beeper Mini app with iMessage registration has tools to generate codes and you must always keep that jailbroken iPhone connected and connected to Wi-Fi.

This sounds exhausting and not worth the effort. Especially since Apple will adopt RCS next year and there are many third-party services that provide better and more secure communication between Android and iOS devices.

Apple has remained relatively silent on the whole situation, issuing a statement only shortly after the Beeper Mini lost access to iMessage. Apple claimed that unauthorized access to iMessage was a risk to user security and privacy and could expose them to "unsolicited messages, spam, and phishing attacks."

Beeper has continued to deny these allegations and has criticized Apple's actions at every turn. But now all of that seems to be in vain: if you want access to iMessage, you have to buy an iPhone--which is exactly what CEO Tim Cook wanted in the first place.
