"The Good Nurse" is a quiet but captivating crime thriller about a man accused of killing numerous patients in a hospital. But it does not begin that way. The film begins by focusing on Jessica Chastain, who plays Amy Lauren, a nurse with a serious heart condition awaiting a transplant. She gets the help she needs during her shift from Charles Cullen, a new employee at the hospital, played by Eddie Redmayne.

Parallel to this disturbance, an elderly patient dies unexpectedly and the hospital launches an investigation. When the two detectives arrive on the scene, they focus their attention on Cullen, whose behavior that night has become problematic. However, the detectives are unable to find any evidence to prove that he is involved in the ever-increasing number of hospital deaths. The truth comes out when Lauren becomes involved in the case. If you like movies based on true stories, this is a must-see.

"Informer" is a gritty crime thriller starring Joel Kinnaman as Pete Koslow, a former Special Operations soldier and ex-convict. Because of his ties to the Polish Mafia, the FBI infiltrates him into a top-secret prison in order to expose the identity of the crime boss, "The General," played by Eugene Lipinski. In return, he is granted early release.

Everything goes off plan when the undercover agent is killed and Koslow's family is threatened. He is placed in a precarious situation between the Mafia and the FBI, not knowing who to trust. The film's stellar cast complements Kinnaman's excellent performance. Rosamund Pike plays Wilcox, Koslow's FBI associate; Common plays Detective Glenns, who investigates the death of an undercover agent; Clive Owen plays the corrupt Montgomery; and Anna de Armas plays Sofia, Koslow's wife. It is a harrowing film.

If you are in the mood for a dark and moody crime thriller, "Prisoners," starring Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis and Paul Dano, is a great choice. Jackman plays Keller Dover, whose young daughter and best friend have gone missing. The only clue is an old RV parked on the street earlier that day. The driver, Alex Jones, played by Dano, is arrested by the police, but there is no direct evidence that he was involved in the kidnapping.

Jackman's Dover takes matters into his own hands to find his daughter and her friend. The film makes you wonder how far you would go if you were put in the same situation. While Jackman is a shocking and troubling character, Gyllenhaal plays an equally troubling role. Both give their best performances in this film, making it one of Netflix's best crime thrillers.

Another unmissable crime thriller available on Netflix is L.A. Confidential. The film tells the story of three cops, each with unique backgrounds and motivations. Ed Exley, played by Guy Pearce, is obsessed with taking out corrupt cops. Bud White, played by Russell Crowe, uses questionable means to achieve justice. Meanwhile, Jack Vincennes, played by Kevin Spacey, shares real-life cases with a popular TV show in exchange for money.

Their stories come together when the three cops investigate a robbery that resulted in the murder of a local Los Angeles diner. The captivating cinematography vividly recreates 1950s LA. It is no wonder the film won the 1998 Academy Award for Best Picture. Also, keep an eye out for Lynn Bracken, played by Kim Basinger. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.
