With the Samsung Galaxy S24 announcement just around the corner, many users are eagerly awaiting Samsung's next-generation phone. However, a recent leak from renowned tipster @Tech_Reve may have revealed a not-so-important camera upgrade that could shake the souls of smartphone fans.

According to X's post, the ISOCELL GN3 primary camera sensor built into the Galaxy S23 series will be reused in both the Galaxy S24 and S25 models. This sensor is a 1/1.56 image sensor offering a resolution of 50 MP, which is certainly passable. It is one of the larger sensors in the current smartphone market, allowing for larger pixel sizes, but still disappointing news.

This could be another blow to Samsung users who are avid photographers, especially after recent leaks that seem to confirm that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will not feature the rumored 10x telephoto lens. The leaks suggest that the S24 Ultra will instead feature a 50MP 5x telephoto lens and a 10MP 3x telephoto lens, which some consider an odd zoom range since the focal lengths are relatively similar.

While it may appear that Samsung is holding back on many of its hardware upgrades, it should be noted that it is not uncommon for developers to reuse components. Often this is to keep costs down and to facilitate mass production.

It is also possible that Samsung is aiming to maximize the use of AI to cover older technologies; one reported feature of One UI 6.1 and Samsung Gauss is a border extension that uses AI to enlarge images. It is also said to be able to edit subjects in videos and improve video and image quality in general.

The question of whether the inclusion of AI will eliminate the need for constant hardware improvements is difficult to answer; AI is meant to be able to mitigate the shortcomings of older hardware, but it is not clear whether it will be truly effective. However, if AI can cover the old parts, it could change the way smartphones are manufactured

. Exact specifications will only be known once the phones are announced and can be tested; the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra seem likely to be fully revealed at the next Galaxy Unpacked, which is rumored to take place around mid-January.
