The end of the year brings a new wave of movies to Paramount Plus in December 2023. One of the main attractions of the streaming service is the huge movie section it draws from the catalog of America's second oldest movie studio.
Dozens of new releases are available each month, many of which deserve to be added to the list of best Paramount Plus movies. But scrolling through them all takes time. And on holidays, no one has that kind of time.
We're going to help by narrowing the choices down to films that score 90% or higher on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. That's practically an A grade, so you can be sure that these new additions to Paramount Plus are great films.
Whether or not you saw 2008's "Cloverfield," the second film in the franchise is neither a sequel nor a prequel. It features a stand-alone storyline that is loosely connected to the world of the original and immediately dives into the story of Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) after she survives a car accident. She wakes up in a bunker with two men. Howard (John Goodman) and his assistant Emmett (John Gallagher Jr.) tell her that a massive chemical attack has contaminated the air outside. Michelle, however, suspects that they may not be telling the truth and seeks her own answers as to what is going on.

Some movies are boring, others are pure fun. American Hustle is the latter. David O. Russell has assembled a dream team of actors to create a thoroughly entertaining con story. Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, and Jennifer Lawrence were Oscar nominees, but none won. In fact, "American Hustle" has the unfortunate distinction of being the second most nominated film to fail to win a single Academy Award.
But when one is enjoying the show, the awards seem meaningless. When con artist lovers Irving (Bale) and Sydney (Adams) are caught by an FBI agent (Cooper), he recruits them to take down a corrupt mayor (Jeremy Renner). However, their identities may be exposed by Irving's jealous wife (Lawrence).

A British sensation, Trainspotting made Ewan McGregor a star, gave Danny Boyle a Hollywood calling card, and gave Robert Carlyle's psychotic Begbie, the most terrifying ever It created a character. It is also outrageously funny and unbearably sad. It does all of this while adapting a Scottish novel about a group of heroin addicts that was thought to be unfilmable. The film is iconic from beginning to end and the soundtrack is one of the best ever. It is simply a magnificent piece of cinema. - MM
