Max has made significant upgrades for its subscribers that may keep it as the best streaming service for years to come.
A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery have agreed to a deal that will provide Max with new A24 movies. This is a pay-one-window agreement, meaning that A24's new films will be officially distributed to Max after their theatrical and PVOD releases.
This means that several major films will be coming to Max, including "Priscilla" and "Dream Scenario," which are currently in theaters; Max subscribers will also get "Zone of Interest" and "Iron Claw," which will be released later this year once the pay-per-view video-on-demand release window ends. They will be able to get.
But it's not just new films coming to Max. According to Max, through the new deal, more than 100 A24 films will be available on the streaming service, including last year's Best Picture winner, Everything Everywhere All at Once Not all films from A24's back catalog will come to Max. While there is no guarantee, it seems certain that at least a few blockbusters will make their way to the streaming service.
I cannot understate how big a win this is, not only for Max, but for Max subscribers. Prior to this new deal, access to A24's latest releases, including this week's top-rated new streaming release, Showing Up, required a Showtime subscription. This meant access through a cable provider or a subscription to Showtime's Paramount Plus.
Paramount Plus and its premium version, which includes Showtime, both have their merits, but Paramount Plus, which includes Showtime, is currently lacking as one of our streaming services. So the transition of A24 movies from there to our top-tier streaming service is a big upgrade for movie fans like me.
In his announcement, Max also mentioned several new and upcoming A24 films that will be coming to the streaming service once their theatrical release is over.
Below is the complete list they highlighted. Keep in mind that this is not a comprehensive list, as the deal covers several years of upcoming films that have not yet been announced.
In addition to these new releases, A24 currently has a deep roster of films that have come out since the company's first film: a glimpse into the mind of Charles Swan III by Roman Coppola. According to Max, at least the following films are slated to appear on the streaming service, but the films are subject to change.
Again, this is just a small sampling of the more than 100 A24 works that will eventually appear on Max. Keep in mind that this is a pay-per-window agreement, which does not guarantee that all older releases will come to Max, and not all new releases will remain on Max indefinitely. Still, getting a significant portion of the A24 roster is a big win for Max subscribers.
