The end of the year is fast approaching, but fortunately, that doesn't mean the end of streaming entertainment. Far from it; if you're looking for what to watch in December 2023, you'll have no shortage of options for new movies and shows premiering on Netflix, Prime Video, Peacock, and other major streaming services.
Of course, the holidays are a busy time and no one can watch everything (or pay for every service). So, we have selected a few films that you should not miss. The series finale of "The Crown," Season 2 of "Reacher," Mark Wahlberg's latest action comedy "Family Plan," the TV reboot of "Percy Jackson," and the biopic "Maestro," which has been the talk of the Academy Awards.

Shows from U.S. networks have seen considerable interest recently. In the summer, "Suits" dominated streaming, and now "Monk" is back on the scene. Tony Shalhoub has already reprised his Emmy-winning role as a multiply-phobic detective with obsessive-compulsive disorder in a variety special during the pandemic. He is on board for "The Last Case" (more on that later), in which Adrian Monk will take on the mystery surrounding his beloved daughter-in-law, journalist Molly (Caitlin Magee), who is about to wed.

Long Live the Queen ...... In Our Memory. As is well known, Queen Elizabeth II died last year after reigning for 70 years. And with her death comes the final chapter in Peter Morgan's fictionalized version of her story. Part 1 of Season 6 dealt with the tragic death of Princess Diana, and Part 2 will see Prince William (Ed McVeigh) and Prince Harry (Luther Ford) grapple with their loss. We also witness the blossoming romance between Wills and Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy) when they meet at the University of St. Andrews. Morgan has not stated how the series will conclude, but our guess is that it will run through 2002, when the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret's death and Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee were celebrated.

Former military man turned vigilante giant Jack Reacher is back on the road to use his special skills in new crimes involving new people in new places. Lee Childs' books are essentially anthologies, and series creator Nick Santora has indicated that he intends to keep that structure. Season 2 will adapt the 11th film, "Bad Luck and Trouble," which involves Reacher in a plot to kill his old friend. Robert Patrick ("Terminator 2") stars as Langston, a former NYPD officer who now works for a defense contractor.
The film opens December 15 on Prime Video
The big story about the film is the controversy surrounding the prosthetic nose worn by director and star Bradley Cooper to play composer Leonard Bernstein. If that does not bother you, then you can enjoy the acclaimed performances of Cooper and Carey Mulligan as Bernstein's wife, Felicia Montealegre. The film is as much a love story and a love letter to art as it is a biopic about one of history's most famous composers. In addition to the lead actor, the cast includes Matt Bomer, Sarah Silverman, Michael Urie, and Maya Hawke. Nose aside, "Maestro" is sure to be a top Oscar contender.
Premiering December 20 on Netflix
