iPhone to Get Google Fi VPN Service this Spring

Google announced that its Fi VPN service will now support iOS for Google Fi subscribers.

In addition to iOS, Google also announced that Fi VPN is exiting beta on Android.

The best VPN, or virtual private network, creates a secure connection from your device to the VPN provider's servers. It's a good way to enhance privacy when you're on an open Wi-Fi network, whether it's Starbucks or McDonald's.

VPNs can mask your location and make it appear that you are somewhere else, often allowing you to connect to regionally restricted websites, such as the UK or Japanese versions of Netflix. VPNs are becoming increasingly popular as websites track user data for targeted advertising for targeted advertising.

"Everyone should have easy access to tools that protect their personal information," said Google Fi project manager Angel Maredia in a blog post." That's why we are expanding access to VPNs to the iPhone, which will be available to everyone using Fi. We plan to roll out VPN to iPhone this spring."

Apart from the VPN news, Google also announced new security features for its Android Fi app. The new privacy and security hub will allow users to easily learn about privacy features available through Fi. At the moment, Fi also has a built-in spam call blocker to stop robocalls and scams.

Another benefit of Fi is that it allows users to tie their phone number to their Google account, making it more resistant to theft through "SIM swap" or "port-out" scams. This is where a thief tricks a customer support representative from a cell phone company into swapping the phone number for a different SIM card Fi offers two-step verification to prevent this type of attack.

Google Fi currently offers two plans: the Flexible plan costs $20/month for unlimited talk and text, with an additional $10/GB for data. The Unlimited plan costs $70/month and includes 22 GB of data before throttling, but includes cloud storage and some international calls.
