Netflix has acquired sleep mode — this is how it works

Netflix likes to ask if you're still watching, but what if you could basically tell in advance that you plan to go to sleep Netflix is testing a sleep timer.

It turns out that the Galaxy S21 Ultra we're testing also has it; according to The Verge, the feature is being tested with a limited number of users. Specifically, "some users with Android devices around the world" will be the first to get this option.

This feature is very simple and ideal for those who are trying to stop waking up at 2 am when another episode of their favorite show is playing. Not only is it a rude awakening, but you now have no idea where you were interrupted.

Here's how Netflix's sleep timer works:

If you select "End Program," playback stops when the episode you're watching finishes, as the timed option may advance one or two episodes ahead.

Netflix may open up this service to more users and devices, but only if they consider the hit from users. Remember, Netflix knows how you interact with its programming; Netflix is constantly collecting data, so if you're not a Netflix user, you're not a Netflix user.

I hope this is successful because this is a great way to improve the Netflix app. I do this all the time on my podcasts. I set a timer for 30 minutes when I go to bed.
