With the redesign of the MacBook Pro, Apple may bring back the long-loved MagSafe charger and at the same time eliminate the controversial Touch Bar.

The news comes from longtime Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors), and is supported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

This is big news, and not just because the design of the MacBook Pro has not changed since the launch of the Touch Bar in 2016; MagSafe was one of the MacBook's better selling points, but it disappeared when Apple switched all ports to USB-C It disappeared when Apple switched all ports to USB-C.

The new MagSafe appeared with the iPhone 12 last year, but it was completely different, relying on Qi wireless charging instead of the old MacBook's detachable power cable.

The only question is how different the MacBook's MagSafe will be compared to the iPhone 12 version; according to Gurman, it will resemble the pill-shaped design of the old MagSafe connector and connect to the MacBook's charging port.

Kuo believes that the elimination of the Touch Bar on the new MacBook Pro will bring back physical keys and a wider range of ports to reduce the need for dongles.

That's right, the next MacBook may not insist on doing everything with USB-C, although USB-C will still be present in some form. He also predicts that the new MacBooks will be available in 14-inch and 16-inch versions and will not have an Intel chip. The latter is understandable given the great performance of the Apple M1 chip compared to the older Intel MacBooks.

Gurman adds that the machine will be available around mid-2021 and will offer a brighter screen, minor design changes, and a next-generation M-Series chip with additional cores and enhanced graphics capabilities.

He also promises that the MacBook Air will get the same treatment, but long after the launch of the redesigned MacBook Pro. This is all we know at the moment, but we can be sure that more information about the MacBook Pro series will be announced soon.
