Samsung Galaxy SmartTag can be joined by SmartTag Plus — What you need to know

Leaked information has already revealed that Samsung plans to unveil the Galaxy SmartTag, a Bluetooth-powered key finder, at Thursday's Galaxy Unpacked launch event. However, a second version may appear at the same time.

According to leaker Ishan Agarwal (via 91mobiles), Samsung will be launching an entry-level SmartTag along with the more advanced Galaxy SmartTag Plus. In other words, Samsung's Galaxy S21 launch event is likely to be filled with new technology.

According to Agarwal, SmartTag+ will be a more advanced version of SmartTag, but he did not specifically mention what additional features it will have. All we know from Agarwal is that SmartTag+ will exist and have the tracking number EI-T7300, which is slightly higher than the EI-T5300 model number assigned to the entry-level SmartTag.

However, Agarwal outlined the features one can expect from the SmartTag series. Apparently, connections will be encrypted end-to-end and will feature what is called a "privacy ID" for security reasons. It will also be able to automatically connect to Galaxy devices and, like the Tile device, will feature a button that can ring the phone with a double push.

Because sometimes the phone mysteriously disappears, even though you know exactly where the keys are.

As we have already seen, the SmartTag will look like a chunkier version of the Tile Mate, measuring 4cm x 4cm x 1cm (1.57" x 1.57" x 0.39") and weighing 13 grams (0.5 oz).

We have already heard news that the SmartTag will cost about €15-€20 in Europe. Unfortunately, Agarwal has not commented on that, nor has he mentioned pricing information for the SmartTag Plus. However, he did say that like Tile, it will be available in packs of two and packs of four. It will be available in oatmeal, black, denim blue, and mint.

For those who plan to pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S21, the SmartTag may be included as a free gift with the Galaxy S21.

We'll bring you more details about Samsung's SmartTag as soon as we hear them, but given that Galaxy Unpacked is on Thursday (January 14), we won't have to wait too long to hear all about it directly from Samsung.
