Owners of the AirPods Max continue to discover condensation on their $549 headphones weeks after the problem was first discovered.
Shortly after the AirPods Max were released in December, there were reports of moisture accumulating over time, and users on the Macrumors forum have also discovered condensation on the new units, according to user reports on the Macrumors forum, The moisture is interfering with the headphones' active noise cancellation, to which Apple has yet to respond
.
While all headphones are exposed to the humid environment of the human ear, the AirPods Pro may be particularly susceptible because they are made of aluminum, which is a better conductor of heat than plastic; the AirPods Max are only separated by a $69 air cushion and are placed close to the ear, they are prone to condensation when walking around the neighborhood on a cold day.
In most cases, this can be remedied by adding airflow. However, headphones, especially with noise cancellation, require a tight seal around the ears. The combination of cold aluminum, body heat, and an enclosed space is the perfect environment for moisture buildup.
Twitter users have gone to great lengths to prove that they are not in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, but in a relatively cold environment.
Apple began selling the AirPods Max last December 15; YouTuber Techkhamun took to Twitter six hours after getting a pair that had accumulated condensation.
Tom's Guide contacted Apple when the condensation issue first became widespread, but has yet to receive a response; we will update this article if Apple takes any action in response to user reports.
