"Wonder Woman 1984" is coming to HBO Max at the same time as its theatrical release. With the right streaming device, you can experience it in glorious 4K and Dolby sound. We've got all the info on "Wonder Woman 2" (also known as "Wonder Woman 1984") and its winding road to viewership.
Due to concerns about the coronavirus, Gal Gadot's second solo film adventure has been delayed from its original release date. A sequel to Wonder Woman was first announced at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, just one month after the film's release, later titled Wonder Woman 1984 (abbreviated as WW84 in promo materials), on the day principal photography on the film began in June 2018.
The first trailer for the film then debuted simultaneously online and on CCXP in Brazil. Four new colorful character posters of Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, and Pedro Pascal were tweeted from the official "Wonder Woman" movie account.
During the panel, Jenkins and Gadot revealed that they are already working on a storyline for a possible "Wonder Woman 3," and the director is also considering an Amazon-focused spin-off further down the road. In January, Jenkins said that the third chapter would be set in the present day.
"Wonder Woman" will debut on HBO Max as soon as it opens in theaters in business, and will be available for streaming at no additional cost to subscribers on December 25.
In addition, director Patty Jenkins revealed that it will be the first HBO Max film to play in 4K Ultra HD, HDR 10, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos.
After some shuffling of the calendar, "Wonder Woman 1984" flew to a Christmas Day release date of December 25.
With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing in the U.S. and many theaters remaining closed, it was decided to release the film on HBO Maxx as well.
The original release date for Wonder Woman 2 was June 5. When the pandemic broke out, it was postponed to August 14, October 2, and finally landed on Christmas Day.
Warner Bros. premiered the first and very 80s trailer for the film online with CCXP in Brazil on December 8, 2019. See below for more Wonder Woman action, a preview of her new foe, and an epic remix of New Order's 1986 hit "Blue Monday."
Expect a new trailer at the DC FanDome.
The new poster for "Wonder Woman 1984" is really cool. Director Patty Jenkins released it on Twitter:
It was officially announced in March that Kristen Wiig had joined the cast as Cheetah, the nemesis of the classic Wonder Woman. From the little we see of Wig in the film's trailer, this appears to be the same for the sequel. Also in March, it was announced that "Game of Thrones" and "The Mandalorian" star Pedro Pascal will appear in the film, playing Maxwell Lord, a powerful businessman from the comics who later became involved with the Justice League on numerous occasions. The character has previously appeared in live action in "Smallville" and more recently in "Supergirl."
Gal Gadot will once again don the armor of Princess Diana of Themyscira (aka Wonder Woman), and Chris Pine will return as Steve Trevor (more details to follow). Connie Nielson and Robin Wright will continue their roles from the first "Wonder Woman" film as Hippolyta and Antiope, respectively. Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, Gabrielle Wilde, Christophe Polaha, and Amr Waked are also in the cast, but their roles have not yet been announced.
Director Zack Snyder, who started the entire DCEU continuity with "Man of Steel" in 2013, announced in May 2018 that he and his wife Deborah Snyder will produce the film. In addition, Hans Zimmer, composer of "The Dark Knight" trilogy, "Man of Steel," and "Batman vs. Superman," created the (absolutely killer) electric guitar theme to accompany Wonder Woman's film debut, and Rupert Gregson-Williams created a solo 2017 version of her incorporated it into the film's score.
Actually much less. There were a lot of locations.
In June 2018, they closed Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC. Gal Gadot sprints down the historic street in full red and blue costume (very fast.
Chris Pine even entertained some onlookers with phone cameras while filming scenes with Gal Gadot in Washington, DC.
That same month, Kristen Wiig was spotted doing a stunt that hinted at her character's feline abilities, giving us our first, albeit unofficial, glimpse of the cheetah. Excitement ensues.
