This PS5 feature is causing controversy — and the Xbox Series X is laughing

Gamers are a fickle bunch, so every time new hardware is announced there is always more than a little negativity, and the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X is no exception.

Recently, Sony released a teardown video, revealing a number of important PS5 features. Obviously, the stand is necessary to keep the console in horizontal and vertical orientation, which some people seem to complain about.

As you can see in the video below, it takes a lot of effort to switch the PS5 to each orientation. Unscrew the stand, plug the screw holes with a special piece of plastic, place the screws into the stand, then close it, place it along the side of the console, and prepare to lay it down horizontally.

Not the most tiring task in the world, but it seems like too many steps just to turn the PS5 around. And I suspect that more than a few people will lose that extra part someday.

Microsoft, taking no chances, has added its own mean-spiritedness to the mix.

Of course, showing how horrible the Xbox Series X would look when put to bed might not have been the best course of action. If you have room for that monster machine, kids, keep your consoles upright.

Still, it's much easier to put the console upside down 90 degrees. It is not clear why Sony decided to take this particular over-engineering step, but given the number of steps required, the chances of damaging the console by placing it incorrectly are low.

We never thought we'd have trouble placing a gaming console, but 2020 has a surprise for us.

After all, we won't be moving the console very often, so the actual process of reorienting it doesn't matter much. However, it is odd that this is the way the PS5 does things.
