There are many reasons to search for celebrities on the Internet. Especially if the celebrity is in a movie or TV show that you really want to see but can't find on Netflix. But the Internet can also be a dangerous place.
Popularity can cause problems, and celebrities are often the perfect bait for criminals, scammers, and other nasty types trying to virtually confuse you. Fortunately, antivirus company McAfee has compiled a list of celebrities to avoid online, or at least be more careful.
Globally, the most dangerous celebrity is Anna Kendrick, star of Trolls World Tour and HBO Max Love Life. She is followed by Sean Combs, Blake Lively, Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Jimmy Kimmel, Julia Roberts, Kate McKinnon, and Jason Derulo.
Elsewhere, the situation is a bit different. In the UK, McAfee claims that Graham Norton, a popular talk show host, is the main culprit. Meanwhile, in India, soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo claims the title, and in Germany, Kylie Jenner proves to be the most dangerous Google search result.
Of course, we do not know how McAfee measures the relative risk of searching for these celebrities. Googling "Graham Norton" or "Anna Kendrick" does not mean that your device will be damaged or your identity stolen.
The point of these lists is that McAfee is trying to highlight the fact that clicking on random search results online is dangerous and can lead to phishing scams, malware, spam, and general bad intentions.
And coincidentally, McAfee sells a variety of tools to help keep your digital life safe. Funny coincidence, isn't it?
But seriously, a little extra protection never hurt anyone. Especially if you have kids who spend a lot of time online and may not know how these malicious sites work.
