Apple's new Pad Air 4 (2020) may be on the way soon, according to Bloomberg tech reporter Mark Gurman, who said marketing materials for the tablet have been circulating to retailers, suggesting it is being prepared for sale.
Apple announced the iPad Air 4 in September and said the new tablet would be available in October. Cupertino did not mention a release date for the new iPad Air, but it is expected to appear in October.
As of now, the iPad Air 4 is listed on Apple's website. The store page details a starting price of $599, along with 64GB and 128GB storage options and five color options. However, there is no mention of a release date." It only says "October release.
This is not the most unusual behavior from Apple. However, the company typically announces a specific release date when a new product is unveiled at a keynote.
For those eager to get their hands on the new iPad Air, this ambiguity may be rather frustrating. However, if Gurman's prediction is correct, it seems that iPad fans will not have to wait much longer for the redesigned tablet.
Speaking of design, Apple has finally moved away from the archaic design of the iPad Air and modeled the iPad Pro. The home button has been eliminated and the Touch ID scanner has been integrated into a side-mounted power button. Indeed, it is now a more modern tablet.
On the back, there is a single camera module, rather than the triple camera array with LiDAR sensor of the latest iPad Pro. But make no mistake, this camera setup is overkill for a tablet.
One new feature is that the iPad Air 4 can now work with Apple's Magic Keyboard. This and the improvements in iPadOS 14 will allow the 10.9-inch tablet to be used like a hybrid laptop, especially since it can take advantage of the power of the A14 Bionic chip. However, the iPadOS still has some limitations and will not immediately replace the MacBook Air or Windows 10 ultraportables.
