Forget the Amazon Echo — The New Google Nest Speaker Just Leaked at Walmart

The Pixel 5 is not the only product that will make an appearance at Google's event next Wednesday (September 30). The company's invitation also mentions other products, including "the new Chromecast (and) the latest smart speaker." As for that latter product, one retailer may have already let the secret slip.

Twitter user Marcos Frausto spotted a package of the product, called "Nest Audio," tacked to a Walmart shelf early on; 9to5Google reports that the retailer apparently had this product in advance of the Pixel 5 event in advance of the Pixel 5 event.

This new leak comes as Walmart was stocking the product ahead of the Pixel 5 on September 30. We've also seen renderings of the speaker in white and charcoal, but in the wild this sighting looks like the only official Google announcement we need further confirmation on Nest Audio.

Not much can be gleaned from the photos of Nest Audio other than the familiar Google packaging. However, a recent Lowe's product listing for the speaker, which is priced at only $100, has sparked some speculation on the Internet.

Roland Quandt of WinFuture first spotted the listing. The exhibit is accompanied by Google's official description of the product, which states, "Crisp vocals and powerful bass fill the room, allowing you to hear your music as it was meant to be heard."

While this page can still be found online, there is no more information on pricing. Still, we all seem to know what Google has planned for Nest Audio on September 30. However, that does not mean that there is no room for more surprises during the upcoming Google event.

We will probably see the announcement of a new Chromecast, which has also appeared online via leaked information. Previously codenamed "Google Chromecast 4," the device will reportedly be called "Chromecast with Google TV," and with a sleek new oval-shaped design, it looks to be a fairly It appears to be a major overhaul. The new casting device will come with a remote control and is likely to be available in a variety of colors.

As for what the rest of the Pixel 5 event will showcase (other than phones, of course), there may still be room to showcase hardware that hasn't been in stores or leaked before. We will need to keep our eyes and ears open for what Google will announce.

Google's September 30 event comes a week after Amazon announced a series of updates to its Alexa-powered speakers and devices, including a new version of its Amazon Echo smart speaker.
