We know the PS5 is big, but how big is it? These photos give us a glimpse of just how big the largest video game console in history is.
Professional illustrator Kei Sawada posted a series of images showing the PS5 alongside other game consoles and various sized TVs. Based on the official dimensions released by Sony, this is pretty conclusive evidence that if space is at a premium, it is better to wait for the PS5 slim version.
The first image compares the PS5 to a 30-inch TV and the Nintendo Switch, the smallest of the current consoles; the PS5 towers over Nintendo's console, roughly matching the height of the TV if not for the slight increase in height of the TV stand.
The second photo shows that the PS5 is significantly taller than the PS4 and Xbox Series X. Also, placing the PS5 horizontally does not help much, as it is still taller than the Switch and does not provide a flat surface on which to place a TV or monitor.
Finally, there are images of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S added to the mix. The new Xbox console has an unusual tower design in its own right, but is very noticeable by its more regular shape and smaller height and depth when compared to the PS5. The Series S is even smaller, but at the expense of performance.
As impressive (or hideous) as the PS5's body is, such a large, irregular shape was always suspected to be very inconvenient for the user. While these are mere drawings rather than actual comparisons, they are still better than comparing console sizes to understand how they fit in one's home. And gamers with limited space would likely be better off purchasing a next-generation Xbox console.
Pre-orders for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S opened today, while pre-orders for the PS5 opened chaotically last week. Furthermore, the PS5 digital editions appear to be far fewer in number than the standard editions, which is bad news for gamers looking to get the PS5 at a discount.
