The PS5's dual-sense controller already has a lot of features, but night mode is one that could really come in handy.
The concept video below, created by Nikolay Mochkin (aka Ellejart), shows how the PS5's redesigned controller will work when the lights are turned off to play console games late at night (via T3).
In short, when the "night mode" is activated, the LEDs in the center of the controller and behind the main buttons light up. While activated, the lights pulse and blink, and there is also an animation of the lights gradually changing. The touchpad lights up first, followed by the buttons from top to bottom.
Particularly fun is that the lights bring back traditional coloring to the face buttons. The two-tone black and white DualSense design has its own appeal, but it is a big departure from the traditional all-black controller with different button shapes. This would help strengthen the link between Sony's old design language and the new.
What we do know that the DualSense controller will include is a number of tactile feedback technologies, including variable resistance triggers. This will allow developers to vary the sensation of pulling L2 and R2 when using different weapons, for example. There also appears to be a built-in microphone for in-game chat and a new "Create" button that adds new functionality to the PS4's share button for creating screenshots and video clips.
Expect the final secrets of the DualSense and the console itself to be revealed in September; the PS5 and Xbox Series X will be released in November to take advantage of the holiday sales season.
