Virtual Gamescom kicks off on August 27.
The opening night live game showcase will be led by The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley, who indicated that there will be a PS5 "world premiere" demo of "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart". He suggested that there will be a "premiere" demo. We got a brief description of the game back in June, but now we will be able to actually play it and get an idea of what it can do on PS5.
The previous "Ratchet & Clank" trailer was in-engine: Rift Apart was in-engine and gave us a glimpse of the PS5's graphical capabilities. But a proper ingame video would have given us a better idea of how the game looks from the player's perspective, and how all the PS5's technology, from the ultra-fast SSD to the ray-tracing capabilities, will be put to use.
But it's not just "Ratchet & Clank" that will be shown off: but "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart" as well as other PS5 games can be expected, Keighley said. He also said that exclusive footage of "Star Wars: Squadrons" and "Destiny 2: Beyond Light" will be shown, as well as a trailer for "Mafia: Definitive Edition." He also said that "Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War" will be unveiled, as well as an early look at "Fall Guys: Season 2," which is currently taking the gaming world by storm.
The showcase is also expected to showcase games for the Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch, similar to last year. And with the PS5 and Xbox Series X scheduled to launch this November, many next-generation games are expected to be showcased throughout Gamescom, which has become a virtual event due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Opening Night Live will be streamed on YouTube on Thursday, August 27 at 2pm ET, 11am EDT, 8pm ET, and 7pm in the UK
. So be sure to pack a drink and a snack so you don't miss any of the action.
