PS5DualSense Controller gets this surprise upgrade

The PS5's DualSense controller will receive its own software update, but there are no buttons on the back.

We learned this from the DualSense page on the PlayStation website (via IGN and Push Square).

Evidence of the update can be found by scrolling to the bottom of the page, where Sony advises users to keep their consoles and controllers updated to the latest version.

Unlike the PS4 console, the DUALSHOCK 4 controller had no updates to download. However, Sony has promised new immersive features for DualSense, such as detailed haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. These features will likely require updates to continue to function effectively for the life of the console.

On the same page is a dual-sense 360-degree view that, when rotated, reveals a completely plain back.

It may come as a surprise that Sony did not add anything to the back of the DualSense. Sony released the DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment for PS4 controllers in late 2019, which plugs into a micro USB port on the bottom of the controller and provides two additional triggers. This will not work with DualSense because it uses the USB-C port instead, but perhaps an updated version of this accessory will appear in the near future.

The PS5 (and the Xbox Series X) will probably be released in November. However, announcements from both companies continue, and Sony's "State of Play" event took place today.
