Samsung may have two secret tablets ready to compete with Apple's iPad Pro 2020, sources have tipped off Gizmodo.
The two Samsung tablets, codenamed "Palette," appear to be ready to go head-to-head with Apple's iPad; Gizmodo has seen documents detailing Samsung's "Palette 1" and "Palette 2" tablets. It is unclear whether these tablets are the Galaxy Tab S7 or an entirely new model, but the emphasis is on "computer-like" features.
The first palette is set to be a larger, more responsive tablet than previous Galaxy Tabs, with "computer-like" - presumably keyboard accessories, improved S Pen, 90Hz refresh rate display, 4G and 5G cellular phone connectivity options, and will have a price between £629 and £799 ($784 and $996).
The Palette 2 is an improved version of the first tablet, offering a 120Hz display and a larger screen size than the Palette 1; it will be available in WiFi and 5G versions, priced at £799 and £999 ($784 and $1245) respectively.
Thus, both tablets have specifications and prices that place them firmly in the high-end tablet arena dominated by the iPad Pro series. Apple has little real competition in the tablet arena. However, these supposedly high-end tablets may at least face some form of challenge from the iPad Pro tablet.
Samsung's Palette tablet also aims to be a laptop replacement, as Chrome OS and Android tablets lack the compatibility and tablet app ecosystem to serve double duty as a laptop replacement device, This could suggest that it will be a Windows 10 machine.
It will also be interesting to see how Samsung intends to position their tablet as a laptop replacement. Apple has been trying to do this with the iPad Pro for several years now, and while it is getting close with the latest iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard, it is definitely still not enough.
Therefore, Samsung needs to bring out something special in its upcoming tablet. The new tablet is expected to be unveiled on August 5 alongside Samsung's Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and Galaxy Watch 3. If rumors are to be believed, it will be interesting to see if Samsung will introduce the two tablets into the mix or wait for them to be revealed at a later date, as the presentation is already quite crowded.
