The PS5 will have third-party accessories and will be available at major retailers. This is perhaps not the most surprising console news of the week, but it is (probably) true, and we have some first-hand information to back it up. The list includes docks, charging cables, controller grips, and other very common third-party gaming accessories.
This information comes from Barron-Blade, a prominent Reddit user who works for "some hated video game retail chain." (Barron-Blade lives in Canada, so my guess would be EB Games. But Canada is a big place, and there are other stores worthy of outrage.) According to him, the retailer's system listed a number of third-party PS5 accessories, the release date for which was November 3.
Barron-Blade did not reveal the name of the manufacturer, but he did share a full list of accessories, including a system stand, magnetic controller dock, magnetic play and charge cable, USB-C glow cable, and controller grip kit. Unfortunately, it is not clear from this alone which accessory manufacturer they are. These are all very common peripherals, with several companies producing their own versions for PS4 and Xbox One.
The release date of November 3 is also intriguing. Judging by past console release dates, the PS5 will probably hit store shelves in mid or late November. Therefore, this could mean several different things: first, the PS5 and its related accessories may be released earlier than expected. It is also possible that the accessories will be released before the console, but this is not unprecedented; the same thing happened with the PS4, where the PS5 was released before the PS4 was released.
Most likely, of course, the November 3 date is just a placeholder. Mr. Baron Blade himself has said as much. Hardware shipping dates are sensitive, especially when supply lines are not operating at normal capacity; come November 3, you will probably have to find a way to live without your magnetic dual-sense charging cable.
As for whether the rumor is true or not, the claims are nothing special and the user in question seems credible. Every console ever released has had third-party accessories, and in the case of recent consoles, those accessories are usually released close to the console's launch. Sometimes the accessories are released before the console itself.
Perhaps EB Games will soon begin official pre-orders for the accessories, or perhaps we will have to wait until the PS5 has an official release date. Either way, the 2020 holiday season is getting closer by the day. Until then, stay tuned to Sony's official feed and Tom's Guide for more information on the PS5's release date and price.
