According to Sony, the PS5 game event will occur "soon"

Earlier this week, Sony postponed its June 4 PS5 "Future of Gaming" showcase in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. However, fans may not have to wait much longer, as Sony has announced that a new date for the event will be "coming soon."

A description found by Push Square under the original PS5 event trailer on Sony's YouTube channel points out that the event has simply been postponed, not canceled. It reads, "This event has been postponed. A new date will be communicated shortly." The description states.

It is unclear when exactly this will happen. However, it is possible that the event will be postponed in the next few days or weeks, rather than Sony postponing the event to July. Since Microsoft plans to announce its first-party next-generation Xbox games in July, Sony likely wants to get ahead of its next-generation console rivals.

While excitement is building for the PS5 and Xbox Series X, Sony definitely needs a big real event. So far, they have only shown off the dual-sense controller and given a fairly dry deep dive into the PS5's specs, as the final design of the PS5 has yet to be revealed, no exclusive games have been officially announced, and the price of the next-gen console remains a mystery.

We had hoped to get a glimpse of Sony's plans today, but of course Sony decided it was not the time to make such an announcement. Currently, there are protests and demonstrations against racism and police brutality in the United States and abroad. Not wanting to divert attention from these serious social issues, Sony cancelled its June 4 event and simultaneously declared its support for the Black Lives Matter protests and movement To learn more about the Black Lives Matter movement, please click here.

If Sony does decide to hold a PS5 event, expect to see next-generation games, PS5 exclusives, and how the PS5's ultra-fast SSD and 3D audio will be utilized to step up the gaming experience. We also want to hear a little more about how backwards compatibility will be handled and what other features the PS5 will bring to the table.
