I am a fan of the Magic Keyboard on my iPad Pro, but a new report indicates that I should be aware that the battery life on my iPad Pro is getting worse.
The report comes from the iPad Insight blog, where the problem popped up when battery life dropped 25% after 2 hours of writing. This is a bit harsh considering that the same site consumed 45% of battery life when using the iPad Pro without a keyboard and consuming media for 5 hours straight.
Fortunately, things turned around. The site got a second iPad Pro Magic Keyboard, which only lost 6% of its battery life after one hour of use. Compared to the previous model, this indicates that the first Magic Keyboard may have been a defective model.
To find this baseline, the site tracked iPad Pro battery life with the Smart Keyboard Folio and found a 9% drop in battery life in two hours. Comparing the original Magic Keyboard to the replacement Magic Keyboard shows that the original defect is likely the problem: the Magic Keyboard's backlight consumes a little extra power compared to the non-backlit Smart Keyboard, which consumption, possibly due to the fact that the backlight is not as bright as that of the non-backlit Smart Keyboard.
Therefore, if you notice that your iPad Pro's battery life has decreased after getting the Magic Keyboard, you should contact Apple to see if it is still under warranty. The company does not list a warranty period for the Magic Keyboard, so you should check with them about the warranty period.
