Galaxy Buds X could be Samsung's AirPods Pro killer

Samsung's Galaxy Buds X could be the company's next true wireless earphone project, following the Galaxy Buds Plus, which debuted earlier this year.

According to LetsGoDigital (via Digital Trends), Samsung filed a trademark registration this week for a wireless wearable headset called the Galaxy Buds X. The Buds X appears to be workout-focused and, according to the description, will "provide software that "provides fitness guidance" and supports software that "measures distance, speed, time, heart rate changes, activity level, and calories burned.

As noted in our review of Samsung's Galaxy Buds Plus, Samsung's rival AirPods already offered a secure fit. However, the new pair, designed with workouts in mind, may see design changes that ensure the Buds X won't fall over from its place while running.

If so, the AirPods Pro might get some attention. At least for non-iPhone users. As the best headphones available today, the AirPods Pro passed our workout test with flying colors.

The Galaxy Buds X is likely to up the ante, especially with the AirPods 3 on the horizon; the Buds Plus is still fairly new and quite affordable at $150, so the Buds X is the "pro" Galaxy smartphone owner has been waiting for. version (perhaps with active noise cancellation?).

It is also quite possible that the Buds X is actually the Samsung bean earbuds that were leaked earlier this month. Previous reports about the kidney bean-shaped pair have pointed out that, like Samsung's Gear IconX earbuds from a few years ago, they will have fitness-tracking features such as heart rate, speed, and distance.

Of course, this is all speculation; LetsGoDigital suggests that Samsung's new wireless earbuds could be launched alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series during the late summer Unpacked event. If this timeframe is accurate, more meaty leaks may begin to emerge shortly.

And if the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 2 makes an appearance, it could mean a complete refresh of Samsung's accessory line by the end of this year.
