I wondered what would make Apple look at the Apple Watch Series 6, even though I just got the latest model. What would happen if Apple made an Apple Watch with a round display?
Don't get me wrong, I really like the current model. But I still often wish it didn't look like an Apple Watch. That's why I watched the following video, which imagines a round race for the Apple Watch Series 6 (I don't usually like these fan-made renderings, but this one got on my nerves).
This Apple Watch 6 design seems to pop to me for one particular reason. This rendering comes from the YouTube account Phone Industry, and shows a new form of digital crown that oddly doesn't look circular.
Of course, a rounded-edge Apple Watch 6 is less likely than possible. Apple is still trying to extend the battery life of the device for sleep tracking, and now they want us to round the corners of a square design? That really won't work.
Speaking of battery life, when this video suggests that this hypothetical watch could have a 48-hour battery life, I was reminded why I always look at these renderings with a tablespoon of skepticism.
This would be a huge leap, since the current Apple Watch has a battery life of only 18 hours. However, the microLED display promised for the Apple Watch 6 could be a more efficient design.
We'll keep up with the latest Apple Watch 6 rumors and leaks and bring you more information as the September launch approaches.
