Nothing is more unsettling than when you run out of a roll of toilet paper and still need another square or two, but don't have one within reach. But at CES 2020, Charmin will unveil a new robot to solve one of life's most private and universal problems.
RollBot (one of Charmin's GoLab inventions) is a small rolling robot with a face and a slot to carry toilet paper; controlled via Bluetooth, this toilet paper Segway can be used to carry a new The goal is to make it easy to get new toilet paper when you run out.
If you're like me, you roll your eyes... And you're probably asking when RollBot will be released. Unfortunately, Charmin won't give you an ETA or promise to bring lightning to your bathroom.
At the same time, I feel like a physically capable individual who buys a RollBot deserves all the side-eye a relative or loved one can offer. No one is perfect when it comes to bathroom planning, but buying a robot for when nature calls you? That's going too far.
But there is more. SmellSense, arguably the least necessary of these "inventions," is a bathroom odor sensor. The promotional video for this smart home device advertises that the digital nose sensor "detects odors" and communicates messages such as "WAIT IT OUT" when the bathroom smells particularly bad.
Unfortunately, this sensor is advertised only for this panel. Imagine being ready to inform all of your guests that your bathroom smells so frequently that you need an alarm system. With an app on your phone, you could check before inviting someone into your home. Especially if SmellSense can light a match.
Finally, Charmin has a booth called V.I.PEE. Yes, if the music or sporting event you're attending isn't loud enough, the speakers and VR headset in this luxurious restroom will make you feel like you're back in the pit.
