With Microsoft Flight Simulator you can fly by the blockage of the Suez Canal, but ou'll need a mod

The massive cargo ship Ever Given has finally been released after being stuck in the Suez Canal for nearly a week.

The ship captured the attention of people all over the Internet during its forced stop in the canal and is now famous enough to appear in Microsoft's Pandemic Boredom. This is thanks to one of the game's virtual pilots, who developed a mod to recreate the stranded ship on the game's virtual globe.

The ongoing saga was filmed by YouTube and TikTok contributor donut_enforcement and uploaded to Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The video shows the aircraft flying over the ultra-realistic Suez Canal and passing by a stranded cargo ship, accompanied by a rather convincing pilot's commentary.

Game developer Asobo's popular simulator generates in-game assets from data extracted from Bing Maps and Microsoft's Azure cloud service. Rotate the globe, focus on the airport where you want to begin your journey, and the world is yours.

However, while Microsoft Flight Simulator's world map is quite good at rendering air traffic and weather in real time, the Suez ships are not part of the game's automatic update system, but a specially created mod.

Still, if you want to further enhance the experience, Microsoft Flight Simulator also supports VR headsets to heighten the senses during flight.

The Ever Given ran aground Tuesday (March 23) amid high winds and sandstorms, blocking one of the world's major sea trade routes and causing massive disruption to global shipping.

Fortunately, according to the Suez Canal Authority, the 400-meter-long vessel is now partially free of the coastline, with an 80% course correction. Efforts to move it completely are expected to resume today.
