The iPad Pro2022 can get a neat display upgrade and notch processing

It appears that the MacBook Pro is not the only "pro" device to compete with the controversial iPhone notch. According to new renderings published by Chinese site MyDrivers, the next iPad Pro could feature its own small notch in the same position as the company's flagship device.

The flip side of this is that the bezel appears thinner than ever, leaving more space for the screen to dominate. While welcome in the abstract, it is worth remembering that the way a tablet is held is very different from the way a cell phone is held.

Apple is expected to be well aware of this design dilemma. It would therefore be surprising if the software is very good at distinguishing between intentional and unintentional presses.

The report claims that the iPad Pro 2022 will again come in 11" and 12.9" and may feature an LTPO display with dual-layer OLED technology. Apple is also said to be working on developing a titanium alloy for the new tablet.

Given that the iPad Pro will feature Face ID starting in 2018, this notch makes more sense than the MacBook Pro, whose front-facing camera functions purely as a (very good) webcam. Apple's somewhat unconvincing justification at the time was that it was a "smarter way to get more space for content."

Nonetheless, this is a strange move given that the iPhone is slowly but surely moving away from the notch, which has been a design feature since the iPhone X in 2017.

Still, by most estimates, the iPad Pro will not be the only high-end tablet to introduce the notch in 2022. The rumored Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is also expected to receive the notch treatment, but given that the screen will reportedly be 14.6 inches, it should appear less noticeable, even if it is physically similar in size.

It is also very likely that we will never see one in person, as they are very scarce in limited areas and are rumored to have no plans to restock once the initial allocation is sold out. Given the enduring demand for Apple products, it is unlikely that the iPad Pro 2022, notched or not, will.
