There are still a few days until the 14-inch MacBook Pro reaches the hands of early adopters.
However, there are those who got their hands on this new laptop a step early and couldn't help but document their experience on Reddit with video and still images. Both have now been removed, but it is still too early to share widely.
Looking first at the photos, perhaps surprisingly, there is no dramatic difference in size between the new 14-inch MacBook Pro and the 13-inch model when viewed side by side.
In fact, they are the same 0.61" thick and larger in depth (8.36" to 8.71") and width (11.97" to 12.31").
But the differences are obvious, especially in the new mini-LED displays. While the benefits of the new screen technology and 120 Hz refresh rate cannot be discerned in the photos, what is immediately apparent is how much more screen space is available thanks to the much smaller top and side bezels. It may be only slightly larger on paper, but that extra space is clearly being put to good use.
Admittedly, the notch is a bit unsightly in this setup screen, but this is where the macOS menu bar is usually located, so it may not get in the way during normal use.
You may also notice that the words "MacBook Pro" have been removed from the bottom of the screen.
Another major change is the keyboard, which now has an all-black design with no metal between the keys; the TouchBar is also gone, replaced by more convenient function keys.
The video doesn't reveal much, unless you have a special interest in how Apple packages its products. However, the interaction between the man unboxing and the man behind the camera is revealing.
"Given that the new 14-inch model is half a pound heavier (3.5 pounds, up from 3 pounds), that's probably not surprising.Let us know what you think of the new MacBook Pro in person. A review will be posted shortly, but until then, check out our MacBook Pro 2021 page for more details and specs.
