Only hours after Apple announced the new MacBook Pro 14-inch and MacBook Pro 16-inch with the new M1 Pro or M1 Max chips, pre-orders have already delayed shipment of the devices in some configurations to late 2021 ...

This is what the folks at 9to5Mac first noticed. Further customization options begin to cause delays: on the 14-inch MacBook Pro, customizing RAM and SSD storage options will push the estimated shipping date back to mid-November.

For the 16-inch MacBook Pro, selecting the top-of-the-line M1 Max chip with a 10-core CPU and 32-core GPU will delay the estimated ship date to early to mid-December. If you choose 32 or 64 GB of RAM in the configurator, the estimated ship date will be December 23, a few days before Christmas.

Fortunately, for those who do not want to build a custom-made machine, devices will begin shipping as early as next week. Apple intends to ensure that Apple Stores and authorized retailers will have the new MacBook Pro in stock on October 26. Again, the 14-inch MacBook Pro will be available next week in base configuration, starting at $1,999 for the 14-inch MacBook Pro and $2,499 for the 16-inch. There will be a slight discount for educators and students, with the 14-inch and 16-inch starting at $1,849 and $2,299, respectively.

It makes sense that the new MacBook Pro would be in high demand. The last model change took place in 2016 and was controversial to say the least. Apple removed almost all ports except for three USB-C ports. This meant that creators had to constantly carry dongles for USB-A ports, SD card slots, and HDMI ports. Not only that, USB-C removed the MagSafe charging standard, much to the chagrin of Apple fans around the world.

The new MacBook Pro also eliminated the Touch Bar, which many felt was obtrusive and unnecessary.

Other welcome upgrades to the new MacBook Pro include a shaper 1080p webcam, brighter mini LED display, and longer battery life. In short, if you want a new MacBook Pro, don't delay.
