You may have heard reports of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 exploding. Especially after the Galaxy Note 7 explosion.
Fortunately, there doesn't seem to be much to worry about at this stage. The phone in question, owned by Chad Christian, reportedly exploded when he was packing it up to send it to Samsung for repair. The cell phone apparently sustained damage after falling off his bicycle.
Christian claimed he was preparing the damaged phone to send back to Samsung when it began to smoke and "explode." In the attached video, the damaged cell phone is smoking quite heavily, but remains mostly intact.
This is not likely to be a repeat of the Galaxy Note 7, which had a similar tendency to "explode" and emit smoke. But that time, it was a very widespread problem that led Samsung to redesign the phone. The company ended up recalling all Note 7s at a cost of $5 billion.
Christian himself, however, believes this is a "one and done" issue. The fact that the phones were already damaged would support that, and the entire incident suggests that the damage was not just skin thin.
An important caveat is to always purchase a case for the phone, as they are extremely fragile. Samsung claims that the Z Fold 3 is the most durable foldable, but it is still susceptible to damage when dropped.
No matter how careful you are, your phone is bound to fall at some point. At the very least, try to minimize damage by wrapping it in a case. The last thing you want is for your phone to be so badly damaged that it starts smoking.
So, Z Fold 3 owners should absolutely pick up one of the best Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 cases to make absolutely sure that this doesn't happen to them
