Will "Outer Banks" Season 3 Ever Happen? Fans are ready to dive into the continuation of the teen mystery thriller, and while Netflix has yet to order "Outer Banks" Season 3, judging by the fact that the second installment is consistently ranked in the streamer's U.S. Daily Top 10, it renewal seems only a matter of time.
"Outer Banks" follows a group of teens searching for buried treasure on the North Carolina coast: John B. Routledge (Chase Stokes) and his friends Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Davis), and JJ (Rudy Pankow), a working-class Pogue" who grew up in a working class family. John B. falls in love with Sarah Cameron (Madeline Klein), a "cook" with a wealthy father. The two discover a legendary pirate treasure related to the disappearance (and presumed death) of John B.'s father. Unfortunately, Sarah's father Ward (Charles Esten) is trying to hoard it for himself.
In the second season, they discover another hidden treasure, but once again it falls foul of Ward.
Here is what we know so far about Outer Banks Season 3.
Netflix has not ordered "Outer Banks" Season 3, but it looks like a renewal could come at any time; Netflix often makes such an announcement about a month after the previous season ends, this time on July 30.
Even in the midst of a pandemic that delayed film and television production, "The Outer Banks" was able to drop its first two seasons a little over a year apart. Now that production is generally back on track, it would not be surprising if "Outer Banks" Season 3 is released in late summer 2022.
The cast for "Outer Banks" Season 3 has not been confirmed, but it is likely that all the major players will return.
The group will likely be led by Chase Stokes as John B. Routledge, leader of the Pogues, and Madeline Klein as Sarah Cameron. Madison Bailey as Chiara Carrera, Jonathan Davis as Pope Hayward, and Rudy Pankow as JJ Maybank are also likely to return.
The cast of Outer Banks Season 3 may also include:
In the Season 2 finale, Pogue stowed away on Cameron's ship on a mission to rescue Sarah and retrieve the golden cross. They succeed in the first part and fail in the second. John B. seriously injures Ward in the process, but Rafe and the crew manage to save the cross from falling into the sea.
With Cleo's help, the Pogues escape on a raft and reach a deserted island. Meanwhile, Kara Limbly searches for someone who can help her obtain the Shroud, a mystical cloth with healing powers that is said to be hidden in the cross. That person turns out to be Big John, John B.'s missing father!
Season 3 of The Outer Banks will presumably follow the teens' journey back to the mainland (and their worried families). They have no intention of giving up either the gold hidden in Ward Cameron's Bahamian home or the cross. The search for the latter - and the shroud within it - will reunite John B. and his father. [As co-creator Josh Pate told Entertainment Weekly, "The relationship between John B. and his father is a big theme, his father comes back, they eventually reunite, and John B. has to reconcile the ideal image of his dead father with the reality of his living father. There are a lot of father-son themes that come up."
Season 3 will also ramp up the romance. As a general principle, we want to make a little more room for teen drama and teen romance in Season 3," co-creator Shannon Burke told EW.
