Note to Triska Decaphobics - iPhone 13 seems to be named after a really unlucky pair of numbers.
A leak from Weibo's Science and Technology Yu and a Twitter post by DuanRui show the iPhone box label (used to unseal the box) and the name iPhone 13 is clearly visible.
The name iPhone 13 is noteworthy because we weren't sure if Apple would name the iPhone after the so-called unlucky number. Coupled with the relatively minor upgrades rumored for this generation, there was some discussion that the next model would be titled iPhone 12S and Apple would skip 13 and become iPhone 14 next year. [That's not the only interesting iPhone 13-related news: according to a report from the South China Morning Post (via 9to5Mac), Foxconn, the contractor for Apple's iPhone manufacturing, will be hiring 200,000 workers for the assembly line at its Zhengzhou plant, where the iPhone is manufactured, by the end of September. The company is planning to increase the number of employees on the assembly line at the Zhengzhou plant, where the iPhone is manufactured, by 200,000 by the end of September.
This suggests a production push from Apple to manufacture enough iPhone 13s to meet demand. We have heard from several analysts that iPhone sales are likely to be larger than usual this year, even by Apple's standards, so it is clear that Cupertino is trying to get ahead of the curve by ramping up production now, before a shortage occurs.
Even if the jump from iPhone 12 to iPhone 13 is rumored to not be that big, there are some exciting new features that buyers will enjoy. All models will have a new sensor-shift main camera, a new astrophotography mode and portrait video mode, and some models may have an always-on display and 120 Hz refresh rate.
According to the latest release date rumors, the iPhone 13 will be released on September 17. Stay tuned as Tom's Guide will provide a report and review of the iPhone 13 as soon as official details are released.
