Ring the Bell Check out the latest prestige TV show to take on the wrestling world. It's by Michael Waldron, creator of Marvel's "Loki" show.
If there's a G.L.O.W.-like hole in your heart, "Heels" might fill it.
But first, let's get the nomenclature straight. A "heel" is a villain. We could call the Joker or Bane a heel. And what about the good guy who fights that heel? It is called "Faith" or "Baby Face." And the first episode of "Heel" is titled "Kayfabe," a term that describes the reality of the industry.
And the first trailer for "Heels" shows people struggling to tell the difference between reality and keifave. As we see, Ace Spade (Alexander Ludwig) believes that his fans are rooting for him, while his brother Jack Spade (Stephen Amell, who has wrestled in real life) has created his brother's character and believes it is his.
This is just one of the many dramas unfolding in the small Georgia town of Duffy. The Duffy Wrestling League is a local promotion where fans go to cheer and boo loudly; the DWL was built by their father, and Jack Spade gets lost in all of its drama.
Questions inherent in the trailer include, "Will the DWL be able to fill the pockets of the warriors of Squared Circle?" and "Will Ace leave the family business for a bigger and brighter ranch?"
Wrestling fans may remember Stephen Amell as an in-ring industry fan from his one-match appearances in WWE and his matches in ALL IN (All Elite Wrestling before Dynamite) and Ring of Honor.
Former WWE Champion CM Punk, who is rumored to be returning soon to the ring for WWE rival All Elite Wrestling, will also appear on the heels, playing a character named Ricky Rabies. Other industry legends such as Mick Foley (aka Mankind) will also appear.
