Star Wars: Andor — Everything We Know So Far

The rebel spy from "Rogue One" will return in the upcoming series "Star Wars: Andor" on Disney Plus. Diego Luna will reprise his role as Cassian Andor in the show, which is a prequel to 2016's Rogue One. And while details of the show are closely guarded, a drone captured images from the set.

Disney announced at its December 2020 Investors Day event, which also released the "Star Wars: Ahsoka" series, the "Star Wars: Land" series, and the upcoming "Star Wars: Rogue Squadron," that filming for Andor is underway. revealed. In addition, fans got a first look at early production footage of the spy thriller.

"Star Wars: Under" is a pre-Rogue One story. It follows the adventures of Cassian Andor, a Rebel spy whose intelligence-gathering activities lead him to play an important role in the growing Rebel Alliance.

Luna is not the only returning cast member from "Rogue One," as Alan Tudyk also returns as the voice of Cassian's sidekick droid K-2SO. Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote "Rogue One," will write, direct, and serve as showrunner

What we know so far about "Star Wars: Under" is as follows.

According to an announcement by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy at Disney Investor Day, "Star Wars: Under" will be released in 2022. I would like a more specific date and will update when I know.

Nevertheless, the Covid-19 outbreak on the set reported by The Sun suggests that the series will be delayed (although it should be noted that The Sun is not exactly the most reputable publication).

The project was first unveiled at the 2019 D23 Expo, where Kennedy first confirmed that it was in pre-production with Luna.

Filming may have been slated to begin this year, but the coronavirus outbreak put much of the production on hold. According to investors, filming began in late November.

If the Cassian Andor series follows the same production schedule as its streaming sibling, The Mandalorian, filming and post-production (including visual effects) would take a little over a year. This means that the premiere of "Star Wars: Under" could be in January or February 2022.

Production is apparently still underway, which is a little too early for Andor's trailer. Instead of a trailer, Disney offered a sizzle reel of "Star Wars: Andor" for Investor Day.

The video combines scenes from "Rogue One," early footage of Luna running around the set, and behind-the-scenes footage from the creature and droid department. So far, Andor looks to be an action-packed, gritty, dark drama.

The cast of Star Wars: Under will star Diego Luna as Cassian Jeron Andor, a Rebel Alliance soldier, pilot, and intelligence officer. Alan Tudyk will also reprise his voice role as Cassian's sidekick droid K-2SO.

Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma, leader of the Rebel Alliance, will also reprise her longtime Star Wars role.

As for new faces, Stellan Skarsgård has been cast in an unnamed character. Reddit fans, however, speculate that he will play Dengar, a bounty hunter who appeared in The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and the animated Clone Wars.

Andor's other cast members include Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, and Kyle Soler.

Gael García Bernal, Luna's co-star in Y Tu Mamá También, has joked that he would like to appear in the series as Andor's "lost brother or something." So let's mark this as "I'd be happy if it happens, but it's not a sure thing."

Will other "Rogue One" cast members appear in Andor? It is highly unlikely that Cassian's actual Rogue One teammates like Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed) will appear. However, the return of O'Reilly as Mon Mothma is expected, as is the appearance of Jimmy Smits as Bail Organa.

Additionally, Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. So it is not unlikely that he will appear in Andor.

The sizzle reel shows the breadth and depth of Andor.

The series takes place five years before Rogue One, which itself is set just before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

The 2016 film tells the story of a team of Rebel fighters who embark on a dangerous mission to steal the construction blueprints for the Galactic Empire's planet-erasing superweapon, the Death Star. Cassian, a longtime Rebel agent, leads the mission along with Jyn Erso.

In Rogue One, Cassian reveals that he has been fighting as a rebel since the age of six, so the Andor series may include flashbacks to his childhood.

An origin story for Cassian's droid K-2SO (a former Imperial enforcer droid, reprogrammed to aid the rebels) may also be depicted.

The first set photos of Star Wars: Andor were obtained all the way from the Clevelands coast of England. Apparently the crew is changing the café to an unfamiliar setting, and the series may be exploring new territory. Will they transform the contemporary café into a cantina, or something else entirely? We will find out in the near future.
