According to a new report, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 will feature an upgraded chipset that promises improved performance.
SamMobile, a Samsung specs leak site, says the upcoming Galaxy Watch will feature the Exynos W920 chip. The chip was reportedly designed exclusively for the upcoming Samsung smartwatch lineup.
All previous versions, including the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2, have been powered by the Exynos 9110 chipset. According to Sam Mobile Intel, the CPU in the newer W920 chip provides 1.25 times faster processing and 8.8 times smoother graphics performance compared to the Exynos 9110.
The existing Exynos 9110 already makes two of the best smartwatches, so the updated version will only improve the user experience.
In our Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 vs. Galaxy Watch 3 guide, we discussed why you should buy last year's model. But after learning what to expect under the hood, we might recommend waiting it out. Not only is the next Galaxy Watch coming out in a few weeks, but it has also been teased with a significant performance upgrade.
The latest chipset may also be optimized for the Galaxy Watch 4 software. As far as we know, the smartwatch will run Samsung's own One UI Watch platform, plus the newly unified Google Wear OS. The One UI Watch in particular looks like it could be a great thing, facilitating a more cohesive device ecosystem for the company's users.
Beyond software and processing, we know that the Galaxy Watch 4 may offer 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, as well as a Super AMOLED display protected by Gorilla Glass DX. The smartwatch should also have an LTE version.
As for pricing and special features, a recent (and subsequently deleted) Amazon listing for the Galaxy Watch 4 indicates that it will cost about $275 and may come with body composition analysis in addition to familiar tools like sleep tracking, blood oxygen measurement, and heart rate monitoring revealed that.
