Pre-order for LG rollable OLED TV is live - for 100,000

LG's rollable OLED TV, also known as the LG Signature OLED R, is finally available for pre-order.

The $100,000 price tag may give you pause at checkout, but it's pretty exciting to witness the flexible set hitting the market. We last saw this product in action at CES 2019, where the 65-inch screen looked like it had just rolled out of thin air. It's safe to say that this is the most magical technology the TV category has ever offered.

The first ever rolling OLED TV and its illusions were supposed to be released last year, and it was no surprise that they did not. Now, however, they are officially available for pre-order, making them more accessible.

LG has not announced an official shipping date, but that doesn't mean Fedex can be trusted to deliver the $100,000 TV.

The OLED R may not have the picture performance of the top-of-the-line LG 2021 TV, or the LG G1 OLED TV with OLED evo, but it can get in and out of view on command. If you've ever found a TV to be an eyesore, this set allows you to simply put it away.

And while motorized elevating TVs are not new, LG's OLED R can be stored in a compact compartment that can be placed over an existing TV console. This compartment also includes a front-burning Dolby Atmos sound system.

While the price is not meant to be derided, there is considerable concern about what customers will get for their large sum of money. In addition to the relatively small size of the panels and the poor quality of the displays, there are durability issues. Over and over again, the screen is likely to curl and expand, stressing the glass bonded to the OLED layer.

The OLED R can be rolled out 100,000 times, which gives it enough legs for party tricks, but does not make the set less likely to break or the motor less likely to fail.

At least LG has established credibility by offering many of the best TVs year after year.

Again, reservations for the ridiculously expensive LG rollable OLED TVs are now being accepted. The official product list can be found here.
