Microsoft's new Xbox Series X Monitor promises to supercharge your game

Microsoft is making it easier to find displays that can take full advantage of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The program focuses on monitors and screens with multiple HDMI 2.1 ports, 4K, HDR, and variable refresh rates, all of which Microsoft promises will provide "an immersive, high-fidelity experience like never before."

To qualify for these badges, displays must have at least three HDMI 2.1 ports, run 4K resolution and 120Hz, and use HDR and variable refresh rates.

Combined, these features allow those fortunate enough to find an Xbox Series X restock to see how the best Xbox Series X games look and run at optimal quality. And these displays will likely work well with the best gaming PCs. And these monitors will probably do a good job with PS5 as well. Not that Microsoft will tell us that.

There are currently three monitors set to come with "Gaming Features for Xbox" badges: the 55-inch Philips Momentum 559M1RYV 4K gaming monitor with DisplayHDR 1000, AMD to facilitate variable refresh rates FreeSync Premium Pro, and Xbox-specific Picture Mode to earn this badge. When it goes on sale worldwide this summer, it will carry a premium price of $1,599, commensurate with its superior features.

The 43-inch Asus Strix Xbox Edition gaming monitor XG43UQ has similar specs but is smaller and will be available in October for $1,400.

And just below the $1,000 mark is the 28-inch Acer Xbox Edition Gaming Monitor XV282K KV. This will be available in the fall and will support DisplayHDR 400 for $950.

These three displays are monitors, not TVs. While some may be reluctant to pay $1,000 for a display alone, it is worth noting that for gaming, monitors tend to have less latency between controller inputs and on-screen action.

Those in the market for a TV are advised to check out the Best TVs list. Prime Day TV Deals before it's too late, and you'll find a selection of screens with key features for enjoying 4K console gaming.
