An entirely new cast plays a new generation of students at a private school in New York City who are subjected to social scrutiny through anonymous Instagram accounts. And as the new "Gossip Girl" trailer shows, the teens are in for a rude awakening about the havoc wrought by their all-seeing sources.
The trailer introduces a group of friends, rich kids who "have known each other since they were babies . There is trust and history."
But that trust is about to disappear with the resurgence of Gossip Girl.
The trailer, which appropriately plays Frank Ocean's "Super Rich Kids," offers more insight into the show's various relationships and entanglements. Zoya Lott (Whitney Peake) seems to be the next generation's version of Lonely Boy, er, Girl, a new student at the school who takes under her wing Queen Bee Julian Calloway (Jordan Alexander).
But when "Gossip Girl" returns, the spies quickly stir the pot. The narrator (Kristen Bell) says, "Here's the information we just got. Constance Billard's ruling class has a big secret."
In the rest of the trailer, we see flashes of the teens' lavish lifestyles (designer clothes, lavish cocktail lounges, grand parties) as well as their complicated love and sex lives.
Bell is the only returning cast member from the original series. The reboot version was written by showrunner Joshua Safran, writer and executive producer of the original series. Safran has indicated that other original stars are welcome to drop in for cameo appearances if they wish.
