Prime Day 2021 is just around the corner. The sales extravaganza has been announced to run from June 21 through June 22, and eager shoppers are already trying to guess which items will be available at steep discounts this year.
But one of the biggest unknowns about this year's Prime Day has nothing to do with sales or savings. Instead, will there be a restocking of PS5s to commemorate the annual sales event?
Not surprisingly, so many people are eagerly asking this question. After all, PS5 restocks are still extremely rare, and demand for Sony's flagship gaming console continues to overwhelm the limited supply.
Amazon is the largest online retailer on the planet, so it is not surprising that thousands of gamers desperate to get their hands on Sony's flagship next-generation gaming console made the first call. Over the past few months, retailers have sporadically reduced their inventories, but there is speculation that they may be planning the largest PS5 restock ever for Prime Day.
So far, there is no definitive answer to this question. We have reached out to Amazon for comment, and while they have yet to confirm or deny our inquiry, there are still plenty of logical speculations we can make to determine if there will be a PS5 restocking on Prime Day 2021.
This is a question of time, and frustratingly, there is no clear answer yet - and knowing the way Amazon has handled PS5 restocking so far, we may not know until the event begins.
Prime Day 2021 is a massive sale period for Amazon, drawing hundreds of thousands of shoppers in search of bargains and exclusive items. It is unlikely that retailers would want to combine that kind of traffic with the hordes of gamers still on the hunt for a PS5.
Amazon's servers have been down in the past under the weight of Prime Day traffic, and the website was down again on the day of the PS5 launch due to the sheer volume of users trying to access the site. Restocking the PS5 during Prime Day would be a situation that Amazon would want to avoid, as it could crash the retailer's website.
Amazon will likely restock the PS5 in the days leading up to Prime Day 2021 or the day after. That way, the website would be able to handle both traffic spikes without causing severe overload.
Of course, this is all speculation, but Amazon may see the restocking of the PS5 as a great way to attract users to their website to browse the many pages of available discounts, further increasing the promotional impact during Prime Day.
Let's nip this in the bud. The odds of Amazon offering any kind of discount or sale on the PS5 on Prime Day 2021 are almost certainly zero.
Prime Day is famous for offering discounts on many hot-selling items, including games, but the PS5 will almost certainly be excluded from the discounts. (To track deals on games and accessories, see our PS5 Deals Guide.)
The PS5 is arguably the most popular product in the tech world right now. There's a reason why some resellers are trying to fetch over $1,000 for the console and its inexpensive accessories.
Sony and Amazon now have products that fly off the shelves of virtual stores in mere minutes (sometimes even seconds!). There is no reason to offer discounts on their products; if you are waiting for the first price drop before getting the PS5, you will have to wait past Prime Day 2021.
