Are you ready for the future to save the present? That's the question "Tomorrow War" will be available this summer on Amazon Prime Video, just a few days before its July release. Even though movie theaters are starting to reopen, it will be nice to be able to watch "Tomorrow War" while relaxing on the best TVs.
"Tomorrow War" looks to be an action-packed blockbuster about a platoon of men and women fighting an alien invasion. However, it's not that simple. Because the battle against the space invaders has been done to death at this point.
Soldiers and civilians alike are drawn into this war by military recruiters who have time-traveled from the year 2051.
As the excitement builds for the release of the film, you will no doubt see trailers, movie posters, and photos of the cast ready to face the hordes of aliens. While there isn't a huge amount of content to peruse right now, there is enough to whet your appetite.
So let's take a look at everything we know about "Tomorrow War" so far.
"Tomorrow War" will be released on Amazon Prime Video on July 2, 2021. The film was originally slated for a Christmas 2020 theatrical release from Paramount Pictures, but the studio delayed it.
With all the confusion associated with COVID-19, the rights to "Tomorrow War" were eventually sold to Amazon.
The first complete trailer for "Tomorrow War" is here and it is full of chaos. An explosion on a soccer field heralds a message from the future. And Dan Forrester (Chris Pratt) decides he must enlist (though not obligated) to protect his wife Emmy (Betty Gilpin) from the draft.
He is then given an accessory that helps him travel through time, and it is revealed that he is a former military man.
Learn more. Here's the synopsis for the movie:
"In "Tomorrow War," the world is stunned when a group of time travelers from 2051 arrive to deliver an urgent message: 30 years in the future, humanity has lost a global war against deadly aliens.
"Our only hope for survival is for current soldiers and civilians to be transported to the future and join the fight. Among them was Dan Forrester (Chris Pratt), a high school teacher and family man.
"Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of Earth."
Less than 30 seconds long, there isn't much to see, but we do see what appears to be the remains of a devastated city in 2051 and plenty of shots of Chris Pratt holding a gun.
Director Chris McKay describes the film as a blend of "action, horror, comedy, and drama" (via CBR).
Chris Pratt shared the first photo of Tomorrow War in November 2019, revealing the name change from the original title: Ghost Draft. The film is Pratt's first project as executive producer, and the actor was suitably excited.
He promised pictures and posts from the set and shared many images from the film. Pratt also posted some great concept art from the film on his Instagram account, giving us an overview of his character's potential arc: he has a wife and child, was drafted to fight aliens, and the squad is now his family.
The official "Tomorrow War" Instagram account also posted a shot of the entire cast (or at least a significant portion of them) on set, having finished filming in January 2020. Please take the time to watch it in its entirety below.
According to the description of the YouTube teaser trailer, Chris Pratt plays "high school teacher and family man Dan Forester," who joins the fight to save the planet for his daughter; J.K. Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson of "Spider-Man") is Dan Forester's estranged plays the father of the "Dan Forester"; according to the IMDB page, his role is named Slade, but this has not been officially confirmed.
These two are joined by Yvonne Strahovski. Yvonne Strahovski may be familiar to those who have played "Mass Effect Legendary Edition" as Miranda Lawson. For those who are not gamers, Strahovski was most recently seen in "The Handmaid's Tale" and plays "brilliant scientist" Vicki Winslow in "The Tomorrow War."
Along with these actors, other names have been confirmed, but details of the characters they play are not yet known. There is a soldier, a civilian, a scientist, and it appears that Ryan Kiera Armstrong will play Pratt's daughter, but I will add more information as it becomes available; I have included some names of the characters on the IMDB page, so for now I am just guessing.
"Tomorrow War" is directed by Chris McKay ("The Lego Movie," "The Lego Batman Movie") and written by Zach Dean ("24 Hours to Live," "Deadfall").
