Apple needs to make a MacBook Air2021 inspired by this new iMac

If you liked the look of the new iMac, you'll love how its colorful design works on the MacBook Air 2021.

This rendering was created by Ian "Renders By Ian" Zelbo and looks like a cross between a MacBook Air M1 and the latest all-in-one Mac. It certainly looks good, plus some of the design details are exactly what we are looking for in the next generation MacBook Air.

Starting with the design, Zelbo uses the same shade of blue as the new iMac. Unlike the iMac, however, there is no two-tone effect. According to a follow-up tweet, Zelbo thought it looked odd.

The body itself is slightly smaller than the current MacBook Air, which was accomplished by removing curves from the top and bottom of the laptop; the wedge shape, a design feature that separates the MacBook Air from the flatter MacBook Pro, is retained.

This bold design feature has been retained.

To match this bold color, Zelbo's MacBook Air now has white bezels around the display and white keys instead of Apple's traditional black. In particular, Zelbo has shrunk the bezels in line with recent rumors, giving it even more display space in the same size body.

On the sides, there are two USB-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack, just like on the current MacBook Air. However, we also see the return of a dedicated MagSafe charging port. This has not been available on any MacBook since 2017, but is rumored to be making a comeback. Given that charging the current MacBook Air requires using one of the only two USB inputs available, it might be a good idea to bring back a dedicated charger. Apple in particular has recently shown renewed interest in MagSafe by adding a MagSafe version to the iPhone 12.

At the top of the introductory image, Zelbo has created a logo based on the iPad Air marketing image. Below that is a reference to the M1X chipset, which is rumored to be the successor to the first-generation M1 chip found in the iMac, MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro. Zerbo, however, later stated that this was a mistake. While it is inevitable that Apple will release an updated Apple Silicon chip, it is unlikely to appear anytime soon.

Sadly, the same is true of the MacBook Air. After receiving two updates last year, it may be some time before the next generation appears. The earliest it could appear is later this year, but a refresh may not happen until 2022; other new Macs, including a refreshed 16-inch MacBook Pro and a new 14-inch MacBook Pro, are expected in late 2021.
