Rumors of a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra are already circulating that the phone, which will appear next year, could have a 200MP camera lens.
This is according to a Weibo post by leakers Ice Universe and Digital Chat Station (via IT Home). If true, it would mean that Samsung's Galaxy S22 Ultra could offer highly detailed, high-resolution photos and focus on low-light photography.
Samsung had already teased the possibility of a 200MP camera last month. A Samsung Semiconductor blog post revealed the new ISOCELL 2.0 technology, promising a larger camera that captures more detail and color, and better low-light photography.
Similarly, the company openly teased the prospect of a 200MP camera and the fact that the Exynos 2100 chipset already supports a camera sensor of this size.
The only question is how much we should trust these rumors. After all, there were several rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S21 would feature a super-sized camera resolution, but they never materialized.
Numbers such as 150MP and 180MP were tossed around, but in the end the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra featured a 108MP lens similar to the Galaxy S20 Ultra. On the other hand, the highest resolution camera on the standard Galaxy S21 was a 64MP telephoto lens.
Then again, it all depends on where Samsung's priorities lie. There are already many other brands pushing the limits of camera technology as it relates to resolution.
ZTE is almost certain that a 200MP camera lens will be included in the ZTE Axon 30 Pro smartphone. Meanwhile, Xiaomi is also planning to launch a smartphone with a 200MP camera, which will reportedly be a Samsung sensor.
We will have to wait and see what happens with the Galaxy S22. We know that it may feature an Olympus-branded camera lens, but beyond that, the rumors are still in the early stages.
After all, the Galaxy S21 series has just been launched, and it will be a long time before any concrete information begins to emerge. However, we would expect improved cameras and increased performance to be major upgrade areas for the next Samsung flagship phone.
