Seems like we just got the Snapdragon 888 system-on-chip, but it looks like Qualcomm is planning a mid-cycle refresh. The giant's Snapdragon 888 Pro appears to offer a slight upgrade over the regular 888.
Leaker Digital Chat Station broke the news, also claiming that the 888 Pro will be used in flagship models later this year, as expected. Testing of the new chip has reportedly already begun.
As far as we know, the Snapdragon 888 Pro will not feature a GPU upgrade. Nevertheless, the primary core Cortex-X1 will be overclocked, giving it an advantage over the regular 888. Overall, the 888 Pro appears to continue Qualcomm's biannual chipset releases.
If we were to venture a guess, the OnePlus 9T will use the Snapdragon 888 Pro. if the Galaxy Note survives, it is conceivable that the Galaxy Note 21 will use this new chip. if the Galaxy Z Fold 3 Snapdragon 888 Pro, but the rumored release date of summer may be too early.
Compared to Apple's A14 Bionic, the 888 Pro may be able to catch up, as there is still a gap in Qualcomm's best silicon. However, it is very likely that the iPhone 13 will use the A15 Bionic, which may give the A Series a lead over the Snapdragon 8XX lineup.
In testing and real-world use, it is unlikely that the Snapdragon 888 Pro will offer more performance than its predecessor, especially since the secondary core and GPU will probably remain at their current clock speeds. Most consumers will not notice the difference, especially since the secondary core and GPU will likely remain at their current clock speeds.
Qualcomm has come a long way in recent years, especially since the Snapdragon 810 era. The company makes some of the best performing chipsets you can put in an Android phone; the Snapdragon 888 is an impressive SoC, and the Pro stands to get just a little bit better.
