A long-awaited feature has been added to Amazon's Kindle e-reader, allowing users to display the cover of a book on the lock screen.

A firmware update is currently underway that will add the option to display the cover of the book you are reading on the Kindle's lock screen. Previously, the Kindle e-reader cycled through a selection of pre-installed backgrounds when not in use.

This display cover option is not limited to books only.

Amazon claims this feature is "a great way to remind you to set aside more time for reading" and will no doubt be welcomed by many Kindle owners. Users have been asking for this feature ever since the first Kindle was launched, so we are glad that Amazon has finally implemented it, even if it took nearly a decade and a half. Additionally, Good Ereader found that the feature also supports side-loaded e-books.

Unfortunately, Kindle editions marked as special offer models, which are significantly less expensive due to the inclusion of in-device advertising, do not receive this feature.

The firmware update is currently rolling out globally, so your Kindle should receive it soon.
