Since the first film was released in 2018 to enormous box office success, critical and audience acclaim, and numerous awards (including an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture), the film Black Panther 2 was set to be made. However, the tragic death of lead actor Chadwick Boseman last year derailed plans for a sequel.
Rumors circulated on the Internet that a CGI likeness of Boseman would be used in "Black Panther 2," or that enough filming had been completed for a cameo appearance before Boseman's death. But producer Nate Moore recently dismissed that as rumor. It's not going to happen," he said.
Marvel movies and shows tend to generate a lot of theories and speculation (see: "Wander Vision" in full), but "Black Panther 2" has been the subject of more speculation than usual since Boseman's death. Director Ryan Coogler and his colleagues have taken time to grieve, and now they are moving forward with "Black Panther 2. Coogler recently told The Hollywood Reporter, "I don't think Chad would have wanted us to stop."
But that doesn't mean that Boseman is already filming something for the movie that could turn into an appearance. Moore, who is currently in Atlanta preparing for "Black Panther 2," said emphatically "no" to a cameo by the late star.
"Chad's death is life itself, and I loved him as much as I loved the character. I think we have to be very careful, very deliberate about the timing of his appearance. [But I don't use the term, 'Come back next week and you might see the Panther! ' and I don't use that in the same way. He doesn't.
Filming for Black Panther 2 is scheduled to begin in July. Marvel plans to release the film on July 8, 2022.
