Caviar, the ostentatious smartphone accessory maker, has created Mortal Kombat cases that appeal only to a narrow demographic: Insane Clown Posse fans and the rich.
The three cases released are Scorpion, Shan Tzong Luminous, and Shao Kahn. Inspired by the names from the video game series, the cases range in price from $6,140 / €5,540 (about $4,454 / A$8,065) to $8,140 / €6,240 (about $5,905 / A$10,692). All three are available for the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. And we can say with confidence that neither will make our Best iPhone 12 Pro Cases and Best iPhone 12 Pro Max Cases lists.
The Scorpion case is the flashiest of the three and is inexpensive, starting at $6,140. Made of gold PVD-coated titanium (which, as Caviar points out, is used in Swiss watchmaking), the case is emblazoned with the character's "Come here! on the case.
The Champ Tzong Luminous, like many of Caviar's cases, is also made of titanium. Combining black super-strong PVD and a special luminescent material, the case glows in the dark and reads, "your soul is mine. If this strikes a chord with you, the price tag will be at least $6,600.
For the big spender who wants a ridiculously tacky combination of gold and black, there's the Shao Kahn case, starting at $6,910, with a case constructed of black G-10 resistant composite material and a reinforced titanium throne. The skull and hammer are made of hardened titanium and plated with PVD ionized gold titanium. The outworld throne is overlaid with the words "I win."
All three cases are limited editions, with only 99 of each available.
This is not the first time that Caviar has released such an extravagant product. Just last year, the brand introduced the "Space Odyssey" iPhone 12 series. One of its more expensive offerings was the 2019 Grand Complication Skeleton Tourbillon iPhone 12, which cost almost $10,000.
